The Jharkhand Cabinet on Tuesday approved a Rs 469.62-crore elevated corridor project from Argora Chowk to Dibdih bridge in Ranchi, with the cost structure and land requirements drawing attention.

The 3.804 km corridor, which includes links towards Kathal More (Chapu Toli) and Ashok Nagar, costs over Rs 120 crore per km, placing it in the higher range of urban flyover projects.

Official estimates show that land acquisition alone is pegged at around Rs 109 crore, while rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) costs are about Rs 39 crore.

Utility shifting forms another significant component, with around Rs 35 crore allocated for water infrastructure and Rs 50 crore for electric lines. These non-construction elements account for a substantial portion of the total outlay.

The project will be executed by the Jharkhand State Highways Authority and aims to ease congestion at Argora Chowk, a key junction connecting Harmu, Ashok Nagar and adjoining stretches with heavy traffic movement.
Officials said the elevated corridor is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks in the area.

However, the scale of land acquisition and utility relocation required could pose execution challenges in a densely built urban corridor, where similar projects have faced delays linked to shifting utilities and settling compensation.

The project is planned over two financial years, targeting 60 per cent of the work in 2026-27 and the remaining 40 per cent in 2027-28.

The Cabinet also cleared another elevated corridor proposal between Karamtoli and Science City, estimated at around Rs 351 crore, indicating a broader push towards grade-separated infrastructure in Ranchi.
